Friends of St Marnock's

St Marnock's Church is now surplus to the requirements of the Church of Scotland. A local charity, Friends of St Marnock’s (FOSM), is hoping to buy the building and provide it with a new future. FOSM has been working closely with the Edinburgh-based charity Scottish Historical Buildings Trust (SHBT). The objective of the Saving St Marnock's Partnership (SSMP) is to protect and maintain the church and, importantly, the contents in their original assemblage. No parish church in Scotland has a more complete set of late medieval fittings. From a cultural and historical point of view, these fittings – and by extension the building (the whole is greater than the sum) – are of international importance.

In addition to preserving the building and its contents, FOSM intend to organise ongoing access to the building and the artefacts along with education about the building and the turbulent period of the Reformation in the history of Scotland. It is hoped that there will be opportunities for further research on the artwork and opportunities to promote community engagement through cultural and educational events.
